Friday’s Top Bullish and Bearish Biotechnology Stocks – (SGMO, ACHN, CTIC, BCRX, GILD, ONXX, VICL, CHTP, BMRN, ILMN, ARIA, YMI, BPAX, ITMN)
The Foster City, California-based biopharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences shares showed a drop of more than 10% after weak mid-stage data on an experimental hepatitis C drug it gained from its $11 billion acquisition of Pharmasset. The drop in stock appeared following the company released a nucleotide analogue polymerase inhibitor GS-7977, Phase II study data.
The company said mostly HCV genotype 1 patients, who had a prior ‘null’ response to an interferon-containing regimen, showed a viral relapse within four weeks after accomplishing 12 weeks treatment plan. Data for eight patients out of 10 participants in this case of the trial and among those eight there appeared six who had a viral relapse.
Gilead lost the most among biotechnology stocks holding over 1M volume on Friday, with mostly in negative territory including Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ONXX), Jazz Pharmaceuticals PLC (NASDAQ:JAZZ), Vical Incorporated (NASDAQ:VICL) and Chelsea Therapeutics International Ltd. (NASDAQ:CHTP) all fell more than 4% while BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. (NASDAQ:BMRN), Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN), Ariad Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARIA), YM BioSciences Inc. (USA) (NYSEAMEX:YMI), BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BPAX) and InterMune, Inc.(NASDAQ:ITMN) lost between 3% and 3.99%.
On the strong side, Sangamo Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:SGMO) gained the most with 26.90%, Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACHN) soared 26.17%, Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTIC) jumped 21.62% and BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BCRX) rose 13%.
Shares price of Gilead Sciences, Inc.(NASDAQ:GILD) started the last session with $46.00 and during the session hit a peak price of $47.88 then closed the trade showing a loss of 14.25% to settle at $47.00.
While taking into consideration its trading capacity, last trade volume of 62.50 million shares was above from average volume of 10.29 million shares.
The company’s week performance moved at -12.56%, 1 year performance remained at +19.62%, and year-to-date performance appeared positive with +14.83% while a month-performance after last trade close went down at -0.44%.
GILD generated revenue of $8.39 billion in the following twelve months and earned $2.80 billion. The Company showed a positive +33.26% in the net profit margin and its operating margin which remained +45.20%. Company’s annual sales growth for the past five years was +24.60%.
